The City Hall skating rink is presently a lake. There was a very pissed-off seagull standing in the middle of it as I passed.

Memo to visiting heads of state and their spouses: try not to wear anything that will clash with (a) the Canadian flag, (b) the Mounties. Really.



ETA: OK, that's actually Sheila Martin, who really should know better. But my comment still stands:

I MAY be wearing my cute coral sweater this morning (Yes, ELL, the anklet matches;), but I have no plans to stand next to mounties or flags....

I sometimes forget that Martin is our prime minister... and I hardly even recalled what his wife looked like. So yeah, do I lose Good Canadian points or something?

He just has such a complete lack of personal charisma. Really hope we don't get closer connections with the states that draw us into a stupid war somewhere else on the planet that Bush feels he can drop kick to make his wee-wee feel bigger. Ever noticed that the US pres shows up when he wants something?

I'm not super worried. We have a minority government, after all. I feel this should allow us to make Paul Martin's life miserable, if we need to and if we work at it.
