which is my point. When I read the original story, somewhere in the back of my head was a little voice saying "This is weird" -- but, hey, it's the BBC! So I just posted it and ran.
And now I feel foolish. But I'm glad she's set the record straight.
Well, basically, during the spring of my senior year of high school, I heard an NPR article detailing a plan Starbucks had (they were just rising into ascendency in 1996) to build a transcontinental coffee pipeline from Seattle to points East. I was excited, because I was going East to colleges, and would miss Starbucks! They talked about the difficulties of buying out properties, and interviewed a farmer who's lands would be affected by the proposed plan.
That spring day was, of course, the first of April.
crankygrrl and I were just this morning discussing the difficulty we sometimes have telling the satire on The Current (http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/) from the real news. (They start each broadcast with The Guy With The Deep Voice doing a deadpan news-snippet-with-commentary, and apparently today's was about the Prime Minister stepping in on the NHL players' strike -- fortunately that was also in the papers so we were able to distinguish truth from fiction.)
