woe is me...
Jan. 26th, 2005 10:19 amMonday: Came outside to discover rental car had been towed. FUCK. All my own fault -- I completely missed the "no parking 7 a.m. to 9 a.m." sign on that side of Queen. Phoned the city, phoned the other number they gave me, got transferred to the wrong lot, wrong lot gave me the number for the right lot. They had it. Took a taxi there, paid $110 to get it back, returned it to Avis. Wrote a cheque for the $60 ticket last night. Arg.
Tuesday: On the way to the gym, my streetcar broke. Not just broke down -- broke. We were trundling along happily and I was chatting to
stilldeepwater when BANG! BANG! BANG BANG! ... BANG! (with exciting light effects.) Full stop. Silence. Driver got out to look and came back to tell us we weren't going anywhere. Turns out the bit that connects the streetcar to the overhead wires slipped off the wire, as they do, while we were passing under a bridge, which ripped the connector off. Made it to gym anyway, but it took me longer than I planned.
This morning: Drying my hair, I noticed the cord of the hair dryer was swinging fairly close to my rings, which were on the side of the sink. I just had time to think "Gee, that looks precarious, maybe I should --" when it swept my claddagh into the sink and down the drain. Again, FUCK. Couldn't undo the connectors -- it's all PVC pipe and seems to have been glued together -- but
crankygrrl's stepfather tells me the little trap at the bottom unscrews and I should be able to get it back that way. So there are signs all over the bathroom saying DON'T RUN THE WATER! and I'll borrow or buy a pair of pliers tonight (refrain: Dammit, I can't find my tools!).
Actually it's the last one that's really messing with me. I'm incredibly superstitious about the jewellery I wear regularly. I nearly lost my coral heart ring at ConFusion, but fortunately it was still in the public bathroom where I left it when I went to look half an hour later.
I just feel spacey lately, like I'm not focusing enough to prevent these stupid things. (Not that I could have done anything about the streetcar. But you know what I mean.) However. None of it's fatal. My mood is still, on the whole, decent -- I just have to get my ring back!
Oh, GIP for new obsession.

Date: 2005-01-26 04:14 pm (UTC)Fuck, sweetie. I am SO. SORRY. about the ring. BUT, I am sure that CGs dad is right about the trap allowing you to retrieve the ring. You may want to pick up some teflon tape with the pliers, so that you get a good seal when you tighten the trap back up.
ION: GOD it is LOUD in this office. I have earplugs in, and the din is definitely.

Date: 2005-01-26 04:48 pm (UTC)I hear ya. The last time I thought I'd lost one of my turtle rings I spent a distressing half hour hunting around the house and checking my pockets at least 20 times, going "ach wailey, wailey" before I spotted it sitting on the sideboard in the kitchen where I'd left it for no reason whatsoever. Never happened to me again. Good luck with da plumbing!
