Cousin J and I looked at 3 houses last night with the agent. Nothing wildly inspiring, but we're really just doing preliminary reconnaissance. It's strange, very strange, to look at other people's houses. The last one on the list was a tiny 2-storey house on Kingston Rd. and we could not figure out what kind of people lived there -- it clearly hadn't been renovated since the 50s, if then, the furnishings were very grandmotherly, there was a poster of Immortal Beloved on one wall and a drawing of Beethoven on another. There was a turtle and a goldfish upstairs and a rabbit and two medium-sized rodents (rats? giant gerbils? we weren't sure) in the basement. There was a strong streak of social activism evident in the posters and papers lying around. There was also a room full of toys and games (grandchildren? nieces and nephews?). The walls were sponge-painted a streaky tangerine colour. It was odd.

Then we went to J's parents' and watched TV until it was time to leave for the movies. Murdoch Mysteries -- never seen it before, but really liked it. 19th century Canadian murder mysteries! What's not to like? Will have to look out for this.

Then met monkeycommando and crankygrrl to see Assault on Precinct 13, which was fine fun although the body count was, well, very high. Gabriel Byrne can still make me go weak at the knees.

yep -- you would think that. To be fair, some of the houses do seem to have been fluffed (at least, I hope people don't normally live like that). Some houses seem to have been more fluffed than others.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Bronte booby-trap over the dining room doorway! Two thick books on the Brontes between two quite heavy-looking stone-effect bookends, balanced on the lintel. Yipe.
