random furniture post

This weekend I need to get rid of all the cardboard and Styrofoam I've accumulated and put things away. I've been picking my way around my new desk (which is still in the middle of the living room) all week.

Here's my new coffee table.

Here's my desk, which Ikea apparently wants to keep secret. I'm kind of sorry they don't have the instructions online (heeey! there's an idea!) because that means I can't show you the FOUR POUNDS OF HARDWARE that came with it. [livejournal.com profile] bryghtboy and [livejournal.com profile] keyef can tell you.

Gonna copy [livejournal.com profile] rubberneck with one of the memes: I love looking at people's icons, but I don't always *get* them. I often wonder stuff like, "Who's that guy?" or "Where's that quote from?" but I tend not to ask, for various reasons. So here are my icons in all their technicolor charm, with creators listed. Pick one (or more!) that you're curious about, and I'll try to explain it. Or at least explain what I like about it.

Actually I think most of my icons are fairly straightforward. But you never know. If you have burning curiosity about one of them, now's your chance to satisfy it.

which does not have its creator credited! tsk, me. I shall fix that.

actually, Beau's previous owner sent us some baby pics of him a while back -- I should really scan them in and post them. He was So. CUTE.

*gush*

When that bag of parts came out of the box... the top part crested first, and I thought, ok it isn't really that wide should be pretty simple. Then more followed... and more and more... turns out it was just a really long bag... Then all the unwrapping... GAH! Gah I say! Not to mention the sorting and using up all your cups and bowls.

The uncentered guide holes were probably my least favorite part of the desk though. It looks awful pretty now... but jimminy jilkers that was irksome! And now I may stop channeling a 1950's comic book character...

I just wish we could have finished it for you that night but yeah, using a hammer at 2am when you have as many nieghbours as were around is not so good :P

Next time you have more stuff to put together tell Karyn, she might make a special trip from Montreal for the occasion :D
