I think I have managed to maximize Cdisorder in my living room, where:

Cdisorder = 1 - Corder (the coefficients are normalized, of course)

and Corder = f (nboxes, Vstorage, t)

It's a complex function, of course, given that nboxes and Vstorage are both to a certain extent also dependent on t.

On the bright side, I do think I'm getting closer to my goal of Corder = 1. I put the computer desk where it's supposed to live, got rid of stacks of cardboard and Styrofoam, unpacked and got rid of 7 boxes (yes, some of them were partly empty, but nevermind) and set up the computer. Power for the computer must wait a little longer, but I'm moderately pleased.

Uh, what's the coefficient for "my friend is a nerd who writes mathematical equations to justify the mess in her living room?"

*ducks*

Justify? Who's justifying anything? I just like equations.

I repeat: you=geek. ;).

also: IT'S MONDAY MORNING! It was bad enough BEFORE you brought the math in!!

*EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK*

also, this mathematical equation lacks any relationship to money, and is therefore by its very nature uninteresting. ;)

Ah, well, that's where you're wrong! See, Vstorage is a function of both time and money! I didn't put that in. But I could have.

Money is kind of a function of time, except for the line of credit bits of it...

*smooch back* What will Kath's friend's employees say! *snerk*

and you are right, I am wrong. Of course money applies (I actually knew that, but decided to be snotty anyway, in an effort to improve my mood. *sigh*)

my response to her, before reading yours (and it remains after reading yours):

My friend, you are a geek. :D. But we love you anyway!

You know how they say money is the root of all evil, and others say it is religion that is the root of all evil. It is in fact Math that is the root of all evil.... There I'm happy I got that off my chest...

tee hee! that's very fine. however i'm having an impulse to go buy another copy of that book "math without tears". unfortunately the last time i read it i was crying by page three. ;)

good luck with the process in the apartment. *g*

Thanks! I unpacked another box this morning (old writing journals/notebooks), and tutted at the random appearance that boxes of candles give my shelves (a completely different equation, which I will spare you). Baskets may be the answer...

baskets to the 10th power? *veg*

it sounds like you're having fun unearthing journals and things. we found boxes of our children's books in my mother's cellar a while back. it was like a treasure hunt. ;)
