It is insane that the other dog will be quarantined and the owner ticketed. This sounds like a potentially fatal attack, and if it had been a child it certainly would have proven fatal. The Chow should have been put down.
I'm going to be a pain in the ass and say that while I don't agree with breed-specific bans, I don't think an article on two pit bulls launching themselves into a fight is the perfect testimonial to their kind and gentle nature. Protective and defensive, perhaps, but protective dogs are the ones that bite the babysitter.

True enough. I'm not even that huge a fan of pit bulls -- I just don't see the point of singling out a particular breed to demonize, because once all the pit bulls are gone, the irresponsible owners will just move on to Dobermans or Rottweilers or German shepherds or whatever all else. The story above is more a testament to the "a pit bull ban wouldn't have done anything in this particular case" POV.
