house update
Apr. 22nd, 2005 11:03 amso, thanks to
bryghtboy and D, we can no longer tell people trying to find our house "Look for the ugly green awning." As of approximately 6:30 last evening, it is gone. Then they ripped out the one in the back for good measure. We left the cross that's tied to the fence with a bit of plastic bag, but we'll think of a good ceremony for disposing of it. The electrician came and will give us a quote for various levels of work. And my mum brought champagne and 8 glasses and we all drank toasts to the house (and to helpful friends and family). And I did my damnedest to kick down one of the flimsy-looking walls on the top floor, but it turned out to be some kind of tough laminate.
Pictures to follow.
Inventory:
- 1 tub of coal
- 2 enamel tubs
- 1 rake
- 1 broom
- 1 rusty spade
- 1 lawn chair
- 1 assembled puzzle glued to a piece of cardboard
- 2 other pictures
- 1 wooden TV exterior
- 1 side table
- 1 small cabinet
- 1 concrete double sink (in the basement)
- 1 clawfoot tub
- 4 sinks that are out of here as soon as ever they can be
- 1 lopsided toilet with an aqua seat
- 2 ladders
- 1 mystery object that looks like you burn stuff in it
- A shelf of paperbacks, plus one hardcover book in (presumably) the native tongue of the former owners that looks like a life of St. Theresa but I'm not certain
- Several sets of steps, by which we deduce that at least one of the former owners was tiny
- Several miscellaneous lengths of piping and guttering
- 1 Green Bin
- 1 empty shortbread tin
- Curtains, a couple of rugs, random odds and sods
- Also, several exterior locks on interior doors, which worries me.
Then my mum and I went for dinner (yummy Hungarian food!) and planned my kitchen.
In short, a fine evening, marred only by the fact that the TTC has decided 12:30 in the morning is an excellent time to buff up the streetcar tracks that are currently piled on Queen Street, just down from my apartment, waiting to be installed. This involves heavy diesel-powered machinery. I'm buying earplugs.
Tomorrow: Ikea. Monday: energy evaluation.

Date: 2005-04-22 09:34 pm (UTC)It is an intriguing list -- I'm so glad we have the bucket of coal! But the locks do worry me a little. Especially the ones on the door at the top of the stairs. There are two of them, a regular lock and a hook and eye. Both are on the outside. *meep* I think an exorcism of some sort may be in order.
