Haven't been posting much about Star Wars. The gist: I'll be there, but my expectations are nil. Phantom Menace killed them and Attack of the Clones stomped on their grave.

According to George Lucas, this is because I'm old and misguided and just don't understand him. I disagree. I maintain it's because the new movies are talentless, humourless, bombastic crap, and I deserve better. Sadly, they still contain a spark of what they could have been, if Lucas had had the brains to hire someone who could write and, possibly, someone who was interested in directing actors. At every turn, watching the exercise in hack work that is the new movies, I sit there thinking "Oooh! This is going to be where it gets cool! He could... oh, damn. Missed again."

They could have been great. But they're not. I hope I'm wrong; I hope Revenge of the Sith is everything the fans have pinned their hopes on, the movie that redeems the wretched mess made of the first two. I just don't think it will be. Fortunately, George Lucas doesn't care what I think.

ISTM that if Lucas had a point, you also would no longer enjoy the earlier movies in your "old misguided" age...

Ah, well, see, the old movies are flawed, childish, piddling creations compared to the perfection and majesty of the new ones, so I'm just showing my further lack of taste by continuing to cling to them. That bit kind of makes sense. :P

RotS is going to be the most misogynistic Star Wars movie to date, too. (Judging from the spoilers I've read. And I've read extensive spoilers, and there's really nothing that could happen to counterbalance a particular event.)

But I'll be going to see it, at least once. If only because I love Palpatine.

Incidentally, I want to smack George Lucas silly just for saying "We thought about showing how Padme starts the Rebel Alliance, but we decided it wasn't very interesting, so now the movie is All Anakin, All the Time."
