Happy day! It's [livejournal.com profile] cretkid's birthday. Also, the farmer's market in Nathan Philips Square is back for the summer.

Did an hour of housework (well, it mostly consisted of tidying the living room and sweeping a bazillion dead flower petals off the floor, but that totally counts) this morning. I think I could get used to that -- start your morning off productively, return to a clean house. Yep.

Also closed all the windows and blinds and curtains I could. We'll see if that keeps the place any cooler than yesterday because dear GOD it was hot when I got home.

Watched my tape of last week's Dr. Who and suffered a moment of absolute panic when I got to the end and it wasn't this week's Dr. Who, despite the fact that I had SEEN it taping when I got in. Luckily it turned out to be on the tape, just an hour later. Great two-parter; I liked Nancy a lot.

And now to work. Book club tonight.

Here's a question that's been baffling me...what is it with people from Toronto and Doctor Who? I'm not kidding...EVERY single person I know from Toronto is a Doctor Who fan, as opposed to the two or three people in Montreal I know that like it (one of whom is originally from the tee-dot). I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I assume it was a staple on TV Ontario for years and everyone grew up with it?

Actually, it seems like people in Toronto (and Ontario in general) seem to enjoy Sci Fi TV a lot more than in any other province I've been to.

Not just people who grew up in Toronto - also people who spent part of their childhood in Alberta (me) and watched Dr. Who on PBS every weekday evening.

It's strange. I grew up in Manitoba, and Doctor Who was on PBS all the time. It just didn't seem like anyone I knew even watched it (and I certainly hung out with people who were heavy into comics and Star Trek).

Well, none of my school friends in Alberta watched Dr. Who. I had a taste for British shows, esp. BBC-produced series, which was at odds with my surroundings at the time.

What [livejournal.com profile] stilldeepwater said. I was first exposed to Dr. Who in Holland, watching on the BBC.

So it could be a total coincidence. ;)
