Weekend was excellent. Hearing other people's tales of unairconditioned woe makes me feel mildly overprivileged for having a cottage by a lake to flee to. Spent Saturday trekking around suburbia picking out bathroom fixtures with J; found the perfect kitchen sink for $400 (marked down from $550, and available elsewhere for $600), which was very exciting. Her uncle's truck has no air-conditioning and virtually no acceleration. But we were strong and we prevailed! Then hied me up to Newmarket (no further buses north, unfortunately, so my parents had to come get me). Ecstatic greeting from Tilde; I suppose, failing J, I'll do in a pinch. Dogs are lovely to have around.

Spent Sunday doing very little and admiring the three (three!) families of ducks swimming up and down -- there's two families with tiny babies, 8 and 11 of them respectively, and another with 7 slightly older and bigger ducklings. Hope the mink doesn't get too many of them. All mallards -- haven't seen any sign of the mergansers, although there were lots a few weeks ago. Maybe they went further north, I dunno.

Granny doing pretty well and in good spirits, but she's taking a gajillion different medications and seemed quite shaky and out of breath when she tried to move. In my family we do not communicate -- I didn't learn until my second call home on Friday that she'd spent Thursday night in hospital. Hopefully she'll do better now. (I was helping her pack last night and she looked at the mirror and said "I look terrible! I look about 95!" She's 94. We laughed.)

sorry to hear about your grandmother, but glad she's doing well. *hugs*

and your family sounds like mine...many years ago when my father was still alive i got a typed letter from my mother about various things. ( i live about an hour north of her place.). at the end of the letter she'd written: ps. your father is in the hosptial. *headdesk*

i have AC at home now! *g*...but not at work. oh well, all good things in all good time.

sounds like a productive weekend. wonderful to be able to pick out fixtures etc., it was my favorite part of the renovations i did in the condo a few years ago.

ps. i love ducks. the way their feet move in the water, and the sounds they make.
