August is like the Sunday of the year: you wonder where the weekend/summer went, and if you still have time to do all the things you planned. I still want a nap.

My aunt reports:

Today, we had for lunch frozen--but rising crust--pizza, plus Turtles ice cream. (By the way, son Mike remarked that he realized how much cheaper it is to buy food at the IGA than to eat out.)

The boys are still working on J's pass-through--need more studs, the rafter ties, the mortaring, reinforcing the floor in front of the pass-through, and have given John a list of things to buy: 2x4s and mortar. John has gone off to buy. They are also enquiring about the readiness of the X-drill--the greatest tool known to man.

Discussed the issue of Hans Island. Hooligans said if there was a severing of diplomatic relations, we may have to refer to those sweet delicacies we sometimes have for breakfast as "Freedom pastries."

Cheers, H

Nice to see my cousin learning these important facts about life and groceries. My own Hans Island fantasy involves 2 warships and 2 cabinet ministers, one either side of the island. Each minister is dressed in Arctic gear and each warship has a gangplank stretched out to -- but not touching -- the island. In strict alternating order, each minister extends a toe to touch the island, and says "Nyaaah!"

Now, can anyone explain to me what the X-drill is?

That's possibly the truest statement about August I've ever read (OK, so I haven't read all that many, but still...)

I've never heard of an X-drill. I'd guess it might be a right-angle drill, or maybe a heavy-duty 1/2" drill, but I've never heard either referred to as "the greatest tool known to man". I think it's something different. What are they doing with it?

Maybe it's something the X-men use, and thus not imminently in production?

In which case I'm putting in my bid for a sonic screwdriver (TM Doctor Who) right away.

I'm still baffled. Maybe it's an ex-drill? I've certainly thought some tools would be better thrown away - maybe they really found one!

Ah. A Skil cordless. Very handy indeed.

I'll keep my eyes open for your sonic screwdriver, btw (which sounds suspiciously like a drink, not a tool).

O_o

or possibly a figment of someone's imagination?

The x-drill is actually just a sort of brand name/sub-brand name ... technically it is a drill made by a company called Skil, it has 18v of power and its cordless so they were likely asking about whether the power pack was fully recharged. Though I'm not positive.

BTW, it looks something like this product but not quite: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007E1LO/qid=1123534357/br=1-11/ref=br_lf_hi_11//104-6913300-0675958?v=glance&s=hi&n=228466

Aha. Thank you! That was puzzling me.

BTW, J and I have determined that we need a signed photo of all three Hooligans standing in front of the House and brandishing sledgehammers and/or other essentials, so when are you making a trip to Toronto? Your presence is required. ;)

I was thinking I might aim for some time towards the end of september or november... see if I can coincide my trip with taking the dock in :P

I'm heading off to Nova Scotia in August ... so traveling funds will be slightly scarce for a little while. But I was thinking around about then, see if your Uncle minded Karyn coming along and visiting during the dock trip :)

Ahem. yes. the dock. may I say that there seems to be a distinct gender imbalance in the completion of this task? Methinks the girls should help this year :).

*ducks as R begins to toss things in a westerly direction. Deathray glares, in particular*

Hey, I'm cool with that. I should mention, though, that I was paying my dock-shifting dues way before these children developed their superior testosterone-linked upper-body strength, and also that if I am helping bring the dock in I will demand the use of my own bedroom. However, if some of the slaves peons helpful friends don't mind having to sleep on the floor, I may indeed volunteer one of these days. ;)

*smooch* I really must come kick you out of your lovely bedroom see this cottage type place some year....

YES! You must!

Also, there are 2 beds in my room (J used to share it with me until she decided we each needed our own space) so there is no need for kicking. ;)

JJ and I will arrive Saturday :D. (JJ says she is cool with the whole flying gig, but that she would please like a grassy paddock to sleep in as I kick if we are forced to share a bed ;).

We can arrange this! I am not sure if the meadow is up to scratch as regards poisonous plants, but if worst comes to worst we can rig up something on the lawn. If JJ eats dandelions she will be doubly welcome. ;)

Huh?!? What, you mean we are supposed to be allowed to stay the night if we take in or put out the dock? Usually its all done in one day... I mean hell the actual dock part takes about 45 minutes at most. The rest of the time is spent cleaning the nasty mucky dead weeds off ourselves.

Though the two sail boats and the motorboat engine last year when we were taking stuff in took a bit longer. Though we were up there for the weekend in any case.
