My aunt reports:

WE HAVE OUR BUILDING PERMIT. As of 4 today, Robin had it in her hot little hand. Called brother Mike, and spoke to Matthew, and congratulated them on same. Matthew says that usually city hall tries to make your life miserable. Good stuff, Robin.

Yesterday, John, Robin and Jen went to pick up the stuff at Ikea. I can see why the store asked. They must have been running short of warehouse space. Filled the trucklet and then Stuart had to ride to the rescue (ride of the Valkyries) with the van. Hope y'all had a good time unloading.

There should be more bathroom reading because John is fervently hoping that all the stuff has instructions in the boxes.

Dr. Don, Norris--John's doctor--told John that he'd been at [the house], visiting the little old lady, Mrs. Mutuls. Don said he'd never seen an older kitchen.

Stuart and Gill extended the floor of the 3rd floor floor just over the staircase, and put resilient channel on the party wall.

Dan and David fished the subfloors in both bathrooms. Have determined where to put Robin's toilet. Will determine Jen's toilet, when they see how wide the bathtub is.

Robin and Jen are--again!--going shopping tomorrow for more stuff, and, with John, will pick up the bathtub.

John wired the lights in both vestibules.

Water guy called and will come in Monday.

Rich, the insulation guy is coming Mon or Tues, or next Tues. John wants a re-estimate on the insulation because the interior walls have been removed. Also wants an opinion on insulation under flat roofs. Been there a 100 years with no problems, and no vapour barrier. But may be shaken up by the renovation. If decide to redo, will take a couple of days of messy work to remove old.

Lunch. Doesn't really matter, because I wasn't there. John and Gill had another Canadian meal: barbecued back bacon (defrosted by moi meme) sandwiches with cole slaw and took a care package back to Stuart. David never heard from John, so went to Gaby's. Dan went away.

Cheers all, your friend Helen
The next step is getting the building inspector to come. This could be a bit of a challenge because they moved on the weekend and are still getting unpacked.

Jen and I went shopping for light fixtures on Saturday. This is stressing her out to a quite extraordinary degree. I didn't buy anything but I'm pretty sure I want a chandelier I would link to if the site was set up that way for my dining room. Then there's:

- wall sconces for dining room
- fixtures for 2 staircases
- hall light, 2nd floor
- fan, 3rd floor
- bathroom fixtures, 2 sets
- ceiling fixture for living room

*sigh*
