Thursday was a big day
Sep. 23rd, 2005 10:21 amWhen you see this on your flist, quote some Shakespeare.
An he had been a dog that should have howled thus, they'd have hanged him.
No house report yesterday by the time I left, but fortunately it came later, and it's a doozy.

Yesterday afternoon, Dennis finished the plumbing for Jen's bathtub--again--after he and John discovered the pressure equalizing thing.
Dan put in bits of stuff on third floor ceiling to stop the foam insulation from blowing off the roof. It was very hot. John put in end caps for bathroom and dryer vents. Also wired. I sanded for a brief time--and went to store to buy strapping. John put in vents from the roof for bathtub and dryer which entailed an emergency run to Rona and 10 to 10.
Today, Dan was at the House well before 8:00 (John dropped off the truck before I drove him to class) and took out pockets of insulation on the roof to prepare for the insulation guys. They eventually came, wearing white tyco suits, and the 3rd floor is now pink. The 2nd and first floors should take less time. The call themselves the 'top guns.'
Insurance guy came at 1:00 and said everything OK, but should hook up smoke detectors before Robin moves in. Also asked, since move-in delayed, if running out of money. John told him no, and how much had been spent. He was impressed. Should call the broker with occasional updates as to what is happening.
(Insurance guy also recommended what I think are ridiculous boondoggles: carbon monoxide detectors, security alarms and a security alarm crossed wired to the smoke alarms. Can you imagine how popular you'd be if every time you burned the bacon, a fire truck came?)
John rented a drill to put a hole through the floor of Jen's bedroom for the heating duct. Also drilled something else.
Stuart got hold of Mario about the custom window and everything seems to be copasetic. Also got a quote from Gator Windows (truck parked across the street)for other windows and looks good.
We had no lunch. Timing was all off. I decided to enjoy the last official afternoon of summer by lying on the chaise beside the pool and reading straight through a really good detective novel--and nodding occasionally at the flowers who nodded at me.
Cheers, Helen

Date: 2005-09-23 02:41 pm (UTC)This happened to my family... the fire department came at least once or twice. Subsequently, they've gotten rid of the security system, and gone back to standard smoke detectors.
I think CO detectors are a good idea, though.

Date: 2005-09-23 09:51 pm (UTC)My mother, bless her, has discovered that the Home Despot will rent you a container, and you can load all your stuff into it, and they will take it away and store it and bring it to your new place when you're ready to move in. So Mummy has decided this is what I am doing (one week from today! eee!), and I'll go stay with someone else until the house is actually ready to live in.
