Why did nobody tell me the 2005 Ig Nobels had been announced? The Nigerian letter-writers got the Literature prize!

Hey, I only found out this morning, and I was already late for work! But the Nigerian really deserved it. And the "swimming in syrup" thing. Do you think they filled a swimming pool? And what kind of syrup?

I went and found the paper. They did fill a swimming pool, and the syrup was made by adding guar gum (or possibly xanthan gum? would have to look) to the water until it reached a certain viscosity.

So I don't know how sweet it was. But I thought that was pretty cool.
