For girls, it's like the Pastel Fairy came and puked all over the page. For boys, it's a little different.

Thank you, Toys R Us, for adding that extra frisson of horror to my afternoon.

According to this, boys get to play with Roboraptors and excellent skull themed playsets. Girls get puppies and wussy pastel toys. It's no wonder all my girl cousins wanted to come to my house and play G.I. Joes and Transformers instead of the crappy selection of toys they were given by relatives!

Also, I can't believe gender specific toys still exist! If I ever have a son, he's totally getting a toy kitchen to prepare him for a life of bachelorhood. My mom always let me help her in the kitchen at an early age, and it sure paid off...no Kraft Dinner for me!

For any child of mine: blocks, claylike substances, stuffed critters, crayons...

They can become what they become.

And I'll definitely team-cook with them when they're up for it too...

Don't forget art supplies and dress-up clothes. Kids love to cut shit up, and dress up in funny clothes!

I'm feeling ever more grateful that to the best of my recollection, nobody much gave me any wussy pink plastic crap when I was a kid.

Of course my father being a consumer-protection TV producer probably helped.

Absolutely! Ah, fond memories...

Oh, and finger-painting rocks, IIRC.

Thumbs up to you!

and I second the art-supplies motion. And books, of course. Lots of books.
