My aunt reports:

Today for lunch we had all-day breakfast. Dan and David were
not here--and were sorely missed.

The trucklet lives! We are strictly instructed to not say by what means.*

John wired. He is testing wireless, coax cable and internet and stuff.**

Jen is getting quotes on hardwood finishing, but thinking seems to be
that, with new sanders, will do kitchen floors our/themselves, install
kitchens and then take it from there.

Jen tidied in what was left of the morning, and Jen and Rob cleaned more
of basement.*** I spent 3/4 hour putting stuff in the dumpster, which was,
thank goodness, almost full up.

Cheers all, Helen
*I'm a little scared by this bit.
**He also showed us how to set the thermostat, starting with how to open
it.
***It was really gross. Really. There was a dead bird. I don't understand
how it can be this gross when it's been cleaned at least twice already. I
also knocked down a post that had been part of a weird framework-thingy by
the basement door, and which was now inconveniently blocking off the small
area behind the furnace; this involved swinging a sledgehammer towards my
head, which I'm pretty sure is not SOP, but I prevailed with my head
intact. Also pulled down the remaining crappy curtains from that window,
which improved the light by a lot.

Other than that, not the world's most productive weekend. Grocery-shopped
for [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl Saturday afternoon, then ate a ton of Chinese
food with her and Jen and watched Cinderella Man -- unexpectedly good and
also suspenseful, because none of us knew how it ended and so we weren't
sure what kind of sports movie it was going to be -- the heartwarming kind
where he triumphs over adversity and lives happily ever after, or the
tragic kind where he nearly triumphs over adversity but in the end doesn't
manage it.

Sunday, read Persuasion (my favourite) and then, because it was in the
same volume, Northanger Abbey. Walked to the farm with my parents. Saw
pigs being fed. Mum and 10 piglets, quite adorable.

Go vote.

I'm pretty sure older houses spontaneously generate debris and garbage; it just builds up in the basement like sock lint.

I believe this. I also believe the concrete floor is shedding molecule-thick layers of itself at all times. My poor furnace filters...
