House update: Weekend (with more pictures)
Mar. 6th, 2006 09:59 amI am still coughing like the last stages of consumption, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly asthma at this point. Yay drugs.
On Saturday, my aunt reported:
*It was REALLY good.
**His pictures are here. Me, blondish, glasses, Jen, green T-shirt, multiple floors, views outside, etc. Some of it has changed already as a result of Saturday and Sunday's work, yay!
***At the ReStore. Rejected. On with the battle.
In the afternoon Dan and I put drywall on the ceiling in my 2nd floor front room, but it was getting awfully crooked by piece 4 -- I suspect the walls aren't straight, Dan suspects the drywall isn't straight, it may be a combination of both -- and I have a nasty feeling it'll have to come down and be redone. Ah well. At least it's only 1/2-inch, and much lighter than the firecode stuff.
On Sunday, she reported:
*We moved stuff around, anyway. Mostly into the bathroom, which has been drywalled and taped and mudded. We put the electrical stuff in the kitchen, which seemed like a much better idea before there turned out to be about 12 boxes of it. Still, at least they can now move around in the middle room.
**Safe 'n' Sound is much less troublesome when you're shoving it into the walls, although I still managed to get it all over me.
***I didn't see this! Excitement!
Basically, cleaning never stops.
I then went home and showered, because I was filthy -- plaster dust makes a wonderful styling product, but not for long -- and then went over to
monkeycommando and S's for the Oscars. Which we all enjoyed. I did very poorly on my picks, partly because I hadn't seen many of the nominees and partly because I was going with what I wanted to win and not what I thought would win -- which makes a difference.
(Edit: Was mean-spiritedly glad that Pride & Prejudice got shut out of the awards. Although they did win my sympathy for Keira Knightley by sticking her next to Jack Nicholson, which I wouldn't wish on anybody.)
On Saturday, my aunt reported:
Today for all-day breakfast, Robin, Jen, Dan, John McG, my John and I had baked eggs, bacon, sausage, fried tomatoes, oranges and a boughten crabapple strudel cake.*
Jen and Rob arrived at The House somewhat slowly, but cleaned two rooms.
Dan put in the metal corner bits in the first and second floors.
John is still sickly and stayed home.
Kathryn H brought coffee and John McG came with his camera to continue documenting.**
John and Jen are now off to meet Stuart to look at windows.***
Cheers all, Helen

On Sunday, she reported:
Today for lunch/breakfast, Robin, Jen, Mike, John and I had cheese cannelloni, fruit salad, and bread and cheese.
This afternoon, Robin and Jen clean out* the second floor and loaded a dump-run's worth of stuff into the truck. Also did soundproofing for Rob's bathroom.**
John reinstalled fire alarms, and installed a light in Rob's third floor bathroom,*** which entailed using the spin saw--and he did not giggle.
Cheers all, Helen
