electricland: (house plan)

Morning house report from my aunt:

Today for all-day breakfast, Jen, Jen, Robin, Dan, David, Mike, John and I had baked eggs and croissants.

Gill cleaned. Robin and Stuart made plans for third floor closet and window seat. Dan and David put up double drywall in Jen's kitchen. William has filled in the holes in the third floor floor and put up the wall behind Robin's bathroom.

John has just returned to our house because we've sprung a leak. As Dan says, the excitement never stops.

Cheers all, Helen
In the afternoon Dave had to go study. Dan kept on with the drywalling. John kept on with the wiring. My mother put sound insulation around the pipes in the second floor front room (there's a huge bizarre structure encasing them, which must be drywalled and then buried forever behind built-in bookshelves because otherwise it will just be too scary to look at). Jen and I hauled boxes from the second floor up to the third floor and put them in the storage space under the eaves. (I'm really going to love my Varde counter unit when I DON'T HAVE TO SCHLEP IT UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS any more... even in 4 boxes, it is heavy. Hm. 116.5 kg -- yup, heavy.) Helen hauled leftover drywall and wood down to the first floor. Who needs a gym membership?

(Helen, to my mother: You know, Gill, when I had a daughter I didn't really picture this. I had visions of debutante balls, garden parties...
Jen, overhearing: Yeah! Me too!)

The basic idea, as I understand it, is that the floor guys start Thursday and we're to have the second and third floors cleared and ready for them. Third floor is clear (except for the chop saw), second floor still needs a teeny bit of drywall and mudding. And the hooligans or someone will have to haul the appliances into the bathroom, which, as previously discussed, has tiles and thus will not be the domain of the floor guys.

The other huge task is to scrape the goo off Jen's kitchen floor (she lied to the floor guys and told them we'd already done it). That will take some time and effort. (Yes, we've been working on this for some time now -- unfortunately it's tough to do for very long at a stretch.)

I have to say, on looking over the photos from a month ago, we really have come a long way. Almost all of those stud walls are drywalled and taped and mudded. I've even primed my kitchen! -- although I'm going to have to go over some of it again. Progress! Measurable progress!

In related news, the boys listen to Tenacious D a lot, and I've managed to get "Wonderboy" stuck in my head. Will try to get some sleep anyway.

...you know, I just picked colours today, and can I remember what we looked at? Not so much. Dunno if they'll be using the water-based or oil-based finish. I believe the plan is: stain and varnish the pine floors, varnish the oak floors. Where "varnish" = "some form of finish that I can't bring to mind just at the moment".
