Weekend update: house

electriclandHouse first, because that's the important thing. My aunt's report from Saturday:
*I went over Thursday evening to approve stain colours. I had already picked out some stain colours from a chip at Home Despot, but it isn't that simple (naturally) and the guy ended up mixing a little of this and a little of that while I said "That's a bit too red" and "Ew, too yellow" and "Does it have to be that dark?" until we came up with something I was happy with. Floors looked AMAZING sanded, but sadly the oak floors were a little stained in spots so had to be stained,** and the pine floors had old bits and new bits that didn't quite match and also had to be stained. Anyway, went over Friday evening and admired the stained-but-not-urethaned floors and they really did look nice; I leaned on the banister admiring them until I realized I was probably rotting brain cells with the fumes and went back downstairs.
**The language needs two different words for stain.
***My mother says this looked great. Might go over this evening to admire and/or help move more stuff.
****Change of plans; he's now doing it today.

So tomorrow my mother is going to go in and prime and paint my kitchen, and then we can put together the kitchen cabinets! Hurray!
Today for lunch, Dan, David, John, son Mike and I had tuna fish and grilled cheese, tomato and bacon sandwiches. (Two types; not mixed.)
Brian the Tile came in on Thursday and took measurements for sills.
The floor guys tuned up on the dot on Thursday. (Dave remarked that the only trades that show up on time arrive when you're not ready for them.) The second and third floors are stained* and have a first coat of urethane.*** Tomorrow Ed will do the two back rooms on the first floor.****
Today, John, Dave and Dan moved stuff big-time from the first floor, using Mike's skateboard as a trolley.***** Dan and Dave are very tired.
David and Dan today decided that they are the world's "most underpaid comedy troupe." Mike said, from listening to their routines, that "overpaid" might be more correct. Dan was not amused.
