house addendum
May. 28th, 2006 10:18 pmForgot to mention...
While I was sanding the front hall, something HUGE with FAR TOO MANY LEGS ran past me. Huge. Seriously. Including the legs, more than loonie-sized. And far, far too many legs. It looked something like a truncated centipede, actually. I yelped. I considered trying to trap it and examine it more closely, and/or reintroduce it to the big wide world outside my house, but frankly I didn't want to get that close, and the next time I looked behind that paint can it was gone.
It was kind of beige. Any thoughts on what it might have been?
(One of the good things about no longer living in Africa: no millipedes. I'm generally OK with creepy-crawlies, but above a certain number of legs I just can't deal.)
(ETA: Note to self: DO NOT do Google image searches for "millipede", dummy. What did you THINK was going to happen?)

Date: 2006-05-29 10:53 am (UTC)one of those ran up a wall *right* by my head in an olde office building. there were three of us in that little office and the resulting shrieks were deafening. not to mention the silliness of three of us trying to fit out the door all at once.
can you hire someone to go roust this creature out of the house?

Date: 2006-05-29 02:22 pm (UTC)I think I'll wait and see if it shows up again. I try to follow a "you leave me alone and I'll leave you alone/out of sight, out of mind" policy with critters. And if it's true that they eat other bugs, well, that's good...

Date: 2006-05-29 03:02 pm (UTC)good point about it eating other bugs. maybe it could take care of those summer flys that look as if they could use a shave.
