House update: Wednesday
Jul. 26th, 2006 04:23 pmMy aunt reports:
**See edit.
Planning to go over again this evening and wire light fixtures. I've caught the bug. I figure if I do two or three a day, they'll be ready in no time! Would really, really like to have all my lights in the kitchen...
EDIT: I enquired about the scarf thing and got this in response:
Today for lunch, Jane, Neil, John and I had grilled cheese open-faced sandwiches with bacon, tomato and dill pickle garnish.*Anyone have any idea of what this means?**
The inspector came today, and John said he was pretty relaxed. Said could move in with some safety features: guard rails on the stairs (We had that! Really dumb. Just scarf something*.)smoke alarms in the stair wells, and no open electrical wiring.
John cleaned up and trimmed one corner of Jen's sink cabinet.
Cheers, Helen

EDIT: I enquired about the scarf thing and got this in response:
scarf v tr. join the ends of (pieces of esp. timber, metal, or leather) by bevelling or notching them to fit and then bolting, brazing or sewing them together.I did not know that.
I was using the word in the pejorative sense, i.e. bung some pieces together and then take them down when the inspector is gone.
Glad to add to your knowledge.
Love Helen
