Lunch review
Aug. 1st, 2006 01:03 pmIt is ironic that I started doing this the same day I was reading all
kinds of stuff on diet and diabetes, with detours into the impassioned
debates on high-fat vs. low-fat, high-carb vs. low-carb, low-sodium vs.
high-sodium, glycemic index, causes of the "obesity epidemic," causes of
type 2 diabetes, metabolism, and on and on. Is any topic in North America
more fraught for more people than food?
PC Chicken Fettucine
Stats: 340 g, 410 Calories, 14 g fat, 2 g fibre, 23 g protein, 1330 mg
sodium
Cooking: Microwave for 4 minutes, stir, microwave for another minute.
First impression: Wow, creamy. Chicken is plentiful.
Taste: Good. It's basically an Alfredo sauce, very creamy, nice cheese
taste, quite salty, no vegetables. The chicken is also saltier than it
needs to be. Nice and filling. (Yesterday I still got hungry around 5 -- I
really do need to keep an eye on the protein -- 14 g plus baby yogurts is
apparently not enough.)
Label amusements: As yesterday, plus there are seven sub-ingredients for
"cream".
Final verdict: Pretty yummy, but high on salt, and I'd kind of like some
vegetables. I think if I were going to eat this again it would have to be
at home, with a side salad.
Will buy again: Maybe -- see above.
Fruit: Nectarines.
Yogurt: As yesterday, 1 fieldberry and 1 black cherry.

Date: 2006-08-01 05:13 pm (UTC)Well, food plays so many more roles now, instead of mere sustenance. I read this on BBC news yesterday... and now today there's word of an anti-obesity vaccine? Great googly moogly.

Date: 2006-08-01 05:19 pm (UTC)It does get very crazy out there. Food is almost like motherhood in a way -- everyone has an opinion about it, and most of them seem compelled to share their opinion, and instead of agreeing to disagree people get in these huge squabbles. I read an interview with Gary Taubes (), which was interesting but made me go "eesh!" at times.
