electricland: (house plan)

I have now slept in my house for two nights running!

It's a little quite a lot like camping, as I couldn't persuade the
water heater to turn on and a lot of the electrical circuits don't seem
functional yet. But. I'm living in the house! Here's the report I sent
out:

Helen is off at the cottage enjoying herself. I will do my
poor best to substitute.

On Saturday, Robin moved in to the House. She
bought light bulbs at Home Depot and promptly found the many light bulbs
that Jen had already bought -- it is ever thus. She cleared the stray
tools and electrical fittings out of her kitchen, stabilized the wobbly
wall cabinet, and cleaned. She also built a small chest of drawers from
Ikea, located her sleeping bag, and put necessities like toothpaste,
hairbrush, and moisturizer away in her bathroom cabinet. For lunch she ate
dinner at Gabby's (mushroom cheeseburger with onion rings, and a
Guinness). Soundtrack for the day was a mix CD provided by Kathryn H.
Everybody else was at Jane S's art opening in Port Carling, which Robin is
sorry to have missed.

On Sunday, after a not very restful sleep, Robin went over to Kathryn's
and fed and played with the cat, and then to John and Helen's and fed (but
did not play with) the fish. She started unpacking boxes and putting the
contents away in the kitchen. She also tried unsuccessfully to turn on the
hot water, and failed despite following all the instructions very
carefully. As a preliminary to this, to reduce the risk of fire or
explosion, she swept up the pile of sawdust that had accumulated near the
table saw and planer in the basement. For lunch she ate at the Goof (combo
for one no. 3) while doing her laundry at the Beach Solar Laundry (since
one of the several electrical circuits that does not seem to be working is
the one that serves her washer and dryer). She also got a parking ticket
and bought groceries. As her stove is not yet hooked up to the gas, these
were all things that could be either microwaved or eaten as is.

When she went back to John and Helen's to take a bath, she realized that
she had locked her keys to their house (and also her parents' house) in
their house. They were in fact sitting in plain sight, mocking her through
the back windows. She was just contemplating breaking in when Mike and Jen
arrived home from the cottage and let her in. She had a bath, watched TV
and ate pizza, and then was driven back to the house by Jen.

Accomplishments:
- Cat, fish, self all still alive.
- Someone is living in the House!

Nothing is Ever Simple dept.:
- No stove, no hot water, few lights.
- But what the hell.

Your friend,

Robin

Huzzah! Congratulations to you. I know what you mean about "camping out" - until I could get at least some of the furniture in my apartment together, I totally felt like I was just roughing it.

Woohoo! Thank you!

I have decided I need to wait until the stove has electricity before I call someone to hook up the gas, because I'm pretty sure it needs the electricity to light. But I hope it'll be soon now!
