House updates: Numerous
Sep. 28th, 2006 06:01 pmBet you missed these! Well, bet you missed the lunch reports, anyway. Here, in order, are all the house reports since I left. Sorry I've been holding onto them for so long. I don't think I'll annotate them tonight; time is getting short and I still have a story installment to write for
raithen.
Actually, before this all starts, I should mention that I left the house at an ungodly hour on Saturday morning, September 2, so was not there to welcome Jen. She moved in that day and slept there that night. Yes, we both live there now! All cheer.
Onward.

Monday, September 4 (Labour Day):
Today for lunch, Calypso, Jen, John, Dan, David and I had cannelloni (from frozen),salad and a cheese tray. And beef bones, which were politely refused.Tuesday, September 5:
Dan and Dave filled the dumpster all the way to the TOP. Also sliced up the deep cabinet (sounds like one of doom) to make three shallow ones for Jen's pantry area. Also make the basement a rainforest continuing to steam Jen's countertop.
Jen unpacked china and got very dirty moving boxes out of basement and went OCD sorting random peaces of hardware and Ikea bits.
John installed Jen's bathroom mirror, made lights work and did wiring.
Cheers, Your friend, Helen.
Today for lunch, Calypso, John, Dan, Dave and I had hamburgers.Wednesday, September 6:
Dave and Dan assembled, partially, three cabinets, steamed a countertop and went to Ronarama.
John worked on wiring and installing Jen's dishwasher.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Calypso, John and I had grilled cheese sandwiches, with tomato, bacon and dill pickle garnish.Thursday, September 7:
Gill and Stuart are working on the closets on the third floor.
John is working on the base for the last of Jen's kitchen cabinets.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Rejane W, John and I had Mexican chicken, chick pea and avocado soup.Friday, September 8:
Dan put melamine tape on the edges of the edges of Jen's pantry cabinets of doom and replaced some flashing in the eaves over Jen's bedroom.
John did remedial wiring and as a result Rob's dining room and living room lights now work. He also fiddled with the water flow of Jen's bathtub until it worked.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Lesley S, Calypso, Dan, John and I had crab quiche and salad.Saturday, September 9:
Dan is building the base for Jen's 'Holy Mystery' pantry cupboards (one and three combined).
John has done remedial wiring for everything in Rob's area, except for one light which he can't figure out.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Jen M, Mike, John, Dan, Dave, John and I had all-day breakfast.Tuesday, September 12:
Dan and Dave worked on the Mystery of God pantry shelves for Jen. John has gone off to the hardware store.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Calypso, John, Dan and I had submarine sandwiches, etc., and we gave Calypso advice on how to fall asleep during a three-hour class.Wednesday, September 13:
Dan has finished the three-and-one cupboard for Jen. John worked on the support for Rob's fan/light.
Cheers, Helen
Today, John, Dan and Dave had lunch at Gabby's.(Also, I got back from Calgary that evening, but nobody noticed for a while.)
Dave and John went to Ikea and bought Jen's new bed and got out of there in about 1/2 an hour. Dan and Dave dissembled Jen's old bed and assembled new bed. John supervised and struggled with recalcitrant parts.
Cheers, Helen
Thursday, September 14:
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had cabbage rolls with sour cream garnish.(I went grocery shopping with my parents. The next day they installed shelves in my closet, and on the Saturday they buggered off to Rhode Island and points south -- not quite sure where they are at the moment. I spent the weekend puttering, and managed to unpack nine cardboard boxes and make my bedroom really quite habitable. I also made chicken marsala a la
Dan and John have:
- cleaned the basement
- moved the larger corner cabinet (sometimes referred to rudely) of Rob's to install cable
- talked about placement for Jen's cable
- repaired the leg of Rob's bathtub, so that it will no longer be called 'Feckless.'
- gone to the North York Ikea and bought a replacement Jen's countertop and obtained a missing part for Jen's bed.
Cheers, Helen
Monday, September 18:
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had leftover lasagne and salad.(I was back at work. Sigh.)
Dan installed door handles on Jen's kitchen cupboards. He also, he reported, added smiles and sunshine to the morning's work.
John made fully functional Jen's TV and DVD and is installing connections for Robin's TV.
The man came to fix Rob's washing machine. It needs a new starter, which will take two or three days. (He is the same man who repaired our dishwasher who advised, wisely, to wash the bottom edge of the dishwasher door.)
Cheers, Helen
Wednesday, September 20:
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had tortierre.Thursday, September 21:
They have been working on Jen's kitchen counter and sink and garbage bag holder. Dan has installed the last shelf in Rob's cupboard.
Also working on modifying the support for Robin's fan/light. Bought 4" screws.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had cabbage rolls and grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches (aka leftovers).Friday, September 22:
Dan, once again, cleaned the basement. Then he and John went to Ronarama for 1,001 bits and pieces to install Ethernet connections for cable and telephone. Also got plywood for Jen's valance and shelf for Robin's dryer.
John is installing Robin's ceiling fan/light, which has many bells and whistles.
The nice clothes washer repair man came and fixed Rob's machine. He advised that front-loading machines need High Energy detergent or only half the regular amount of regular detergent because of the amount of foam produced. You learn something every day.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had sausage penne with (gasp) no garnish.Tuesday, September 26:
Dan is installing Jen's valance and not shooting himself in the hand with the nail gun.
John examined Rob's stacking washer and dryer and agreed with the nice repair man that they will work better if separated. John is also installing Jen's sink and tidying up his own tools.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had international pizzas: Canadian/Italian and Flammekueche (Alsatian).Wednesday, September 27:
Dan has taken apart the top unit of Rob's corner unit and John will wire it for TV on the top. Dan is planning to save the side panels (real walnut) for the sides. John also worked on Jen's kitchen sink.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch, Dan, John and I had tuna fish salad sandwiches, with a small side of smoked salmon and Brie. And at long last, today:
Dan worked on the trim of Robin's corner cabinet. He will pick up a new task this afternoon, because the trim is giving him difficulties.
Cheers, Helen
Today for lunch John and I had hot dogs.I have called Whirlpool and they are sending the guy back to us on Monday. But I love my new shelf, and the loss of the top part of the corner cabinet has infinitely improved the living room -- nothing looming at you! It's wonderful!
This morning Dan painted the bottom of Rob's bathtub. Yesterday he built the shelf for Rob's dryer. The washing machine is still a little problematic, John says.
John went to Rona and to Hudson's Plumbing where he finally got tie-downs for Jen's sink. Jen's dishwasher is running, and her bathtub is a definite maybe. It'll work out.
Cheers, Helen
