Sorry, once again, for the long silence! I missed you all, but LJ was just taking up too much time and energy in a sort of unproductive way. Lots has been happening. The short version:

  • Work: Busy. Stressful. Better now though.

  • Choir: Participated in performance art and the Downtown Choral Summit; conductor has got married to one of our tenors; they are both leaving us to travel around the world. Sad. If you know any choral conductors, we're hiring.

  • House: Slow but steady progress!
    • I have an actual dining room, rather than a storeroom for boxes. It has paint on the walls and a carpet on the floor and bookshelves containing Granny's china and some vases and lamps and things that friends and family have given me and pretty boxes from Ikea and also some actual books and all my CDs (finally). Also wall sconces. I wired them in but then John had to come over to do remedial wiring because the switch had no effect on them at all, they were on whenever the circuit was on.

    • Most of my books are still in boxes, though.

    • I've done some actual gardening. Contrary to my belief, the little bastard squirrels didn't get all the bulbs Helen put in; it's just that our front garden is a bit lacking in sunlight. (Although the crocuses are definitely a lost cause.) The tulips and things (I assume) have started pushing their way out of the ground like nobody's business. No blooms yet, but I cheer them on daily. I also put down some patches of topsoil and grass seed. It's mostly about showing the neighbours we're not completely antisocial, frankly. However, as so far we have neither a hose nor an outside tap to hook it up to, our garden will need to be hardy.

    • [livejournal.com profile] pariah_ink got an apartment, and moved his stuff from our basement to it. This gave us room in the basement. Most exciting. We've taped off a corner of it and that's where stuff for a garage sale now lives. It's much easier to be tidy in a house with a basement than in an apartment, I find.

    • Back yard continues to be white trash hell. You know you're in trouble when other people have started dumping unwanted tables and things with your construction waste. I'm just waiting for our new dump permit, then we're clearing it out of there...

    • My parents have returned from faraway lands (OK, Gananoque) and I have every hope that they'll build me a bookcase in the living room some time soon.

    • As I type this, the house is being cleaned. By someone other than me. I LOVE IT.

    • I also adore my kitchen with a passion that is probably not altogether healthy.

  • I've caved and joined the Evil That Is Facebook.

  • I was handed a note in the library by a Man, which was very flattering, but on further correspondence he seemed like more trouble than he was worth. Have decided I'm OK with perpetual spinsterhood, at least until I become a lot less crazy. After all, I have my house.

  • I've been reading a lot of books. As usual.

  • I got an express bus sticker for my Metropass as part of my continuing campaign to get to and leave work on time. Will let you know how it goes.

  • Went to a wedding on Saturday at Casa Loma. Gorgeous.

  • Scar continues to heal. I look like I was stabbed very neatly in the back.
How are you all? What have I missed?

Went to a wedding on Saturday at Casa Loma.
Wow! How exciting! Was it in that main large hall, or in the solarium with the stained glass skylight?

Hmmm. Examining the handy map (http://www.casaloma.org/Tour/MainFloor/) they have provided for our convenience... Wedding in the conservatory; drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the Great Hall; dinner in the library and dancing in the dining room. It was awesome. They have crossbows on the wall of the Great Hall!

I don't think I've actually been in there since I was about 5, although I went to school some 5 blocks north of it and actually stayed with friends 1 block north of it for 3 months last year.

Discovered I missed you, too, shortly after being poked on Facebook. I had a computer meltdown and developed a buffer of comic pages. Woo for the house!

Thank you! MOST exciting about the new condo plans. Best of luck -- the looking can be a pain.
