electriclandYesterday I gardened and won.
The bush by the door, which we'd decided to remove (it was purple and spiky and rather dull) put up a hell of a fight. I cut off all the branches I could and then started digging. It remained firmly fixed in place. I cut through some little roots. It deigned to wobble a bit with two of us tugging at it. I dug some more. I dug some more. I dug some more. At one point I got up and stomped on it, to no avail. The root on the thing was humongous! Eventually a neighbour suggested twisting it, which we did, and it finally came out.
Also chopped parts of the hedge (made of various mismatched shrubs) to bits. It looks kind of sad now but we'll find something else to put there. I was considering transplanting one of the hollyhocks but Wikipedia says this is difficult on account of their long tap roots, so maybe I'll leave it be and find something else to put in. Possibly my aunt's Rambo Rose of Sharon would let us have some offspring.
We ended up with three full bags of yard waste, plus the remains of the bush. We now have several containers with geraniums and impatiens and pansies and stuff to look pretty while we think about what to do on a more permanent basis. The grass is getting tall (again). We also bought some hostas (hosta! I always think they belong in the Star Wars universe) but haven't put them in yet.
Tilde supervised and barked at every single person who walked past the house. Sigh. Mainly they laughed at her. You would too.

kaelsu2 -- huge long lines everywhere we went! But it was quite interesting and I kept running into people I knew. Then PotC:AWE, which was quite fun but WAY TOO DAMN LONG. I also found it quite hard to follow who was on whose side and whose ship now. But at least I had a nice ice cream bar to eat.
