Wow. It's slowed down considerably for you. Maybe the books that were taken out initially were by people who read really fast and now the slowpokes are getting the book.
The first big rush was over the weekend -- I dropped from 666 to 171 from Thursday (presumably Friday as well) to Monday. If your book is on the hold shelf, you're still counted as being in the queue; I'd guess about 100 people didn't pick up their books right away, which would actually have put me at around #70. The people ahead of me in line that had their books on hold in the first wave are the ones that have been picking them up since then (and probably a few people finished their copies fast and brought them back right away -- not that many though).
Books only stay on the hold shelf for 10 days, so the people who haven't bothered to pick them up will lose their chance as of Tuesday or Wednesday and more of them will go back into circulation.

Yes, I think about this too much. ;)
