electriclandIt is Fire Safety Week here, and as a result I got to spend some time playing with a fire extinguisher simulator. It was very cool! They had a fire extinguisher hooked up to a tank of compressed air, a laptop, and a big screen on which was projected a simulated fire. When you aimed the nozzle it shone a (very hard to see) light on the screen to show where you were pointing it. If you do everything right, the fire dies down. If not, it doesn't. They can set the level of difficulty and tell you how long it took you to kill the thing. Awesome.
I am uncoordinated enough that I managed to have difficulty with the order of operations (1. Lift extinguisher with non-dominant hand. 2. Pull out the pin. 3. Grasp nozzle with dominant hand. 4. Squeeze handle. 5. Long side-to-side sweeps covering the entire area of the fire). I kept getting 3 and 4 backward. With a real extinguisher I would have been choking in powder. Oh well, hopefully my brain will sort it out.
