minor mysteries of life: persistent comment spam

Every now and then, I get a piece of comment spam. But for some reason that I cannot fathom, it's always on the same entry.

I don't do any sort of traffic analysis on my LJ so I have no clue why this might be. Does this happen to anyone else?

This post of yours came up as a Google result for "livejournal comment spam" which is why I'm here.

I've got 2 or 3 *OLD* entries that seem to attract these stupid anonymous comments. What's the common factor that pulls in the robots? I have no idea.

Most of all, WHY spam Livejournal comments, anyway? What's the benefit to the spammer?

I tried to google for the answer to that, but no luck.
Perhaps one of your readers knows.

The only reason I can think of is to add incoming links to their websites and thus pump up their page rank. But the other mysteries remain.
