I was not planning to go anywhere because I have very little spare cash at the moment. But my parents are renting a flat in Rome for a month, so how could I not descend on them? And what better use for all those Aeroplan points? (Don't worry, [livejournal.com profile] raithen, I still have enough to come visit you!) I thought I would probably end up kicking myself if I didn't do it. So I'm going.

I haven't been to Italy since Grade 12, which is officially more than half a lifetime ago (egads). And that was a guided tour. So any suggestions will be appreciated!

I'm so jealous! I am seriously jonesing for Italy right now.

The one neighbourhood that I fell in love with but didn't get a chance to fully experience was the area we hit walking from the Ponte Sant'Angelo to the Piazza Navona.

You'd have to look at a map to figure out exactly what area that is (I think we went a bit south from the bridge, then veered back north to the Piazza), but there were all these great little narrow streets full of small patios and funky little boutiques and shops. Sadly we were completely exhausted from the Vatican museum and all we wanted to do was get back to our hotel and shower before dinner, so we didn't really get a chance to enjoy it. But if I could go back to Rome RIGHT NOW, that is totally the area I would explore/hang out in.

If you're a fan of Bernini at all, definitely go to the Borghese Gallery, which houses his David and Apollo and Daphne (among others).

Argh, that's a pity. I thought I could hop over to Rome and meet you for a coffee, all jet-settery like, but alas, that first weekend my brother is here and the one after I'm flying home.

Anyway, have a lovely, lovely time and tell us all about it! I'm planning to visit Rome this year. Would love to hear what you thought!

oh, too bad! Another year! I will definitely let you know how it goes (I realize I still have to write up my England trip... but hope springs eternal, yes?).
