Things I have learned

Yesterday, thanks to the Star's Maps blog, I learned that there are beehives on the roof of the Royal York Hotel. Here's a map of their likely range, and that of the 22 hives at the Brick Works. (Somehow I missed this story when it first came out, probably because Spacing was on a headlines hiatus.) I think this is all kinds of awesome.
Today I learned that:
- "home canning" is not something strange and exotic, just that home bottling thing my Granny used to do
- Canadian Tire has a whole aisle of supplies for it
- and they also have a new self-checkout aisle, which is nifty
So I bought some Mason jars and whatnot, and tomorrow I will go to the Nathan Phillips Square farmers market in search of Stuff To Preserve. Because I seem to be in a domestic mode just at present. (If only it translated to clean floors.)
I also learned that walking too far on my sprained ankle, especially carrying Mason jars, is a bit ouchy. DUH.
