RIP Nina Simone. I'm embarrassed to say that she's another person I had assumed was already dead. (scratch confused ramblings about the implications of this) Damn. Just... damn. A great loss.

On an entirely different note, while I appreciate that complaining about anything the New York Post does is pretty much a complete waste of energy (I mean, they're running a banner ad saying "Get the Deck of Death! Get Saddam!" even as I type), I was amused when their criticism of Fidel filtered back to me... well, you can read the whole story on the company site if you wish. In an "any publicity is good publicity" note, their store is 5 doors down from my office, and I was quite tempted to run over and buy a T-shirt this morning. However, I see they've been busy making marketing hay out of the situation, so I can resist.

I heard about Nina Simone's death yesterday, and was chagrined. That was one fabulously gifted woman, and she left behind quite a legacy of music. (Some of which I intend to get some day; I've got some sitting on my Amazon wishlist to make them easier to find later.)

The only thing I have of hers is the Verve compilation. It's a great starter package.
