I'm going to Paris!
Apr. 21st, 2009 10:20 pmYes, I know I'm being frugal and everything, but my parents are going to France for 5 weeks and borrowing a flat in Paris for 2 of them and -- like Rome last year -- I would kick myself if I didn't go. So, yay Expedia (where I found the flight) and yay FlightCentre (where I booked the flight for $10 less) and yay Air Transat (which will be doing the actual flying)!
EEEEE I'M GOING TO PARIS! I haven't been to Paris in YEARS. And then it was only for 1 day 10 years ago, on my way to visit Jen in London. I'm due.
What should I do while I'm there?

Date: 2009-04-22 07:30 am (UTC)Paris is but a train trip away, and I've never been. Maybe we could hang out for a day? Omg how awesome would that be?

Date: 2009-04-22 12:55 pm (UTC)Definitely go and see museums. (Hopefully, most of them won't be closed, due to a museum workers' union strike - like what happened BOTH TIMES I was there. I have yet to see the inside of the Louvre.)
The maritime museum and La Musee D'Homme (the two big curvy buildings at the other end of the park from la Tour Eiffel) are really neat and could take up an entire day.
Get yourself a metro card and go exploring. Get your lunch from a local boulangerie and eat out on the Troccodero.

Date: 2009-04-22 01:48 pm (UTC)My favorite museum in the whole world is the Musee de Cluny, the national musuem of the Middle Ages. But also bien sur les Invalides, and the Musee Carnavalet. You can easily take a day trip up to Tours and do a tour of a few chateaux - or better yet stay one night overnight and do even a few more. Normandy is also do-able as a day trip by taking the train up to Bayeux and doing a half-day bus tour of the area.
Versailles, of course, and the Opera Garnier, and if you can get a ticket you should see the Comedie-Francaise. Also Pere-Lachaise and the crypt tour, and for churches Notre Dame and St-Denis and Sainte-Chapelle at the very least.
You'll want to get a carte orange so you can have unlimited metro rides for two weeks - so you'll need a little passport photo to put on it.
*sigh* Jealous! You'll have a wonderful time!
