Went to pick up my car & have tea with Kelly & Jean. I love going over to their place — the smallest conversation is usually wide-ranging and just lots of fun. This evening's sample covered: a picture Jean's niece had painted and given to him, of the old family cottage; said cottage and the devilish road that led to it; whether it is good, or not, to live in old Quebec-style houses; jewellery and furniture making, and how perhaps they balance one another; whittling wooden spoons in idle moments; paint stripping; how to find the exact shade of green paint that Nicholas Hoare uses in their Greene Avenue store; remnants of pink in the bathroom; tiresome clients; translation deadlines; and the Isle of Orleans, its hydro line, its topography, its architecture, why they decided not to bury the eyesore of a hydro line, the Route des Pretres and the history of same, and the rock in the middle of the island where you can see the mark where the Devil's foot touched down when he stepped off the north shore of the St. Lawrence, onto the island, and onto the south shore (much like the hydro line in fact).

I am going to pack BEFORE I go to sleep this time.
