Well too bad, I suspect it may be rather scattered just the same.

It's warmed up again, it's been gorgeous out — I walked from work to the library, stopping along the way at a couple of music stores. I bought (second-hand, so it's not as bad as it could've been) CDs by Nanette Workman (loving it), Victoria Williams and the Smiths — I actually exercised quite a bit of restraint considering I was also tempted by Tori (rejected because I have Boys for Pele on tape and I'll wait to update until I actually have spare cash, dammit), Bruce Springsteen, and Men Without Hats among others. I figured anything that's going to be around for a while I can hold off on. No sign of either Boiled in Lead or Kirsty, which are what I always look for but rarely find in second-hand CD stores. Ah well. One of these days. Looking at HMV.ca it doesn't look like I necessarily saved much money, but no shipping charges and instant gratification are also worthwhile.

Wasn't at all sure what Smiths to go with, it being my first foray, but there was lots of stuff on this one — when in doubt, go with quantity! Anyway, it also features "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby", which is the only Smiths song I actually recognize as such (Kirsty again) (although I'm sure I've heard lots of others without being aware it was them, if you follow me).

(Hm. I think I need this on top of everything else. Maybe in 6 months, when it will be more seasonally appropriate.)

Weekend was good. Spent a ton of money I don't really have at MEC — I now own a thoroughly waterproof Gore-Tex jacket (it has a guarantee!) and a Swiss Army Camper knife and a few other nifty little items. Hung out in the back garden with Daddy, eating a late lunch and enjoying the sunshine and chatting to the neighbours across the fences; admired Clara and Lily, the Cairn terriers next door; looked after the next-neighbour-over's six-year-old for half an hour. Went over to learn more about urban design and urban planning from Michael-owner-of-Bronte-the-Airedale, which was very cool; I'm trying to get more of a feel for these careers that I think I might enjoy. (Bronte is absolutely adorable and VERY much like Brandy, only smaller; she clearly thinks she's a person. Michael said they are very glad they decided to go with the chemo. Every now and again as we were talking Bronte would stalk slowly to the screen door, gaze fixed on something outside, then pounce on the rug by the door and shake it to death before asking if she could go outside. This happened at least five times and was funnier each time.)

Then off to the Farscape pub night, pretty well attended (9 people including [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl, [livejournal.com profile] mindrobber and me); we utterly failed to do any planning for Toronto Trek but that's OK. I read the list of panels and may even manage to get my act together and sign up for a few that intrigued me.

Sunday: brunch with uncle & aunt & cousin, then Daddy and I braved the hordes at Ikea (SARS? what's that?). Daddy truly has the luck of the devil, he found the exact stainless steel sink he wanted for the new kitchen in the As Is store for almost 40% off, and it was no-tax day. Do you think I could manage that if I tried?

Then home for some computer sorting. It's always intriguing to do tech support for my parents, I have to constantly re-evaluate what is and isn't obvious to them; for instance, Daddy has no problem cleaning his IE cache on a regular basis, but didn't realize that Outlook and Outlook Express are two separate programs and couldn't figure out why the work he'd done didn't seem to show up the next time he went into his email (he's been using both, someone recently installed Outlook for him but didn't explain what a shortcut was or that this was a different program... anyway, I'm glad it was so easy to sort out, sometimes my parents have very strange computer problems).

Mummy arrived home from her annual reunion weekend while we were in the middle of that, so I got to see her. Then off to the east end for a bit of whirlwind trip planning with [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl and to pick up my plane ticket. Then the drive home, which seems to get longer every time I do it. Darn speed limit.

Martha's back from New Mexico and looks very tanned and relaxed. Can only hope I'll be in similar shape when I return from Scotland.

Nine days to go. :D

Hey, not my fault you have weird associations with someone who's still making music. If somebody namechecks Bruce Springsteen, I don't automatically flash back to EMS 2. (Chopin and Carmina Burana, still relevant even though I listened to them in standard 4. But they're really old.)

Thing about Ms. Workman is that I only found out about her (and a handful of others) because of our forced familiarization with Franco-pop during Grade 7 and 8 extended French. I don't think I've heard of her since.

Reflects not one whit on her music, which I don't remember, but which would have been horendously '80s at the time anyway. Mostly I remember a haze of blonde hair and a little bit of leather.

Living Color, on the other hand was music I chose to listen to, with high frequency, in highschool, and rarely since.

Dunno about pop. More blues. OK, popular blues, but still. She has a radio show in Montreal these days. Hell of a voice.

She is also the source of the mantra many of us should remember more frequently: "Aw, honey, don't 'should' all over yourself."

YAY MEC!

OOOH FUN!! Which jacket did you ultimately get? Enquiring minds esp. those who encouraged a new MEC devotee want to know. And the knife looks GREAT! Very much like mine, and I LOVE mine - have used it for years. And what other tidbits? Don't hold out on us now!

P.
she who is trying to be positive about doing her taxes. Procrastination is bad, because it means they aren't done yet. *ULP* But deadlines are good, because they get things done. *DOUBLE ULP*

The Tempest 2 (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=592113&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=336511&bmUID=1051655428692) -- not as grossly expensive as some, although in absolute terms still pretty darn expensive. Ow. But it will Last.

Also a mini maglite, tiny first-aid kit, water bottle, 3 mesh stuff sacks and a foil survival blanket. Oh, and cotton hiking socks in case the weather turns gorgeous. :D
