Here's what I shall propose:

Just 'cause [livejournal.com profile] elissa_carey mentioned it, I was thinking I might suggest A Game of Thrones, but this crowd does not go for 700-page series books, so perhaps I'll just read it on my own one of these days.

Off now, wish me and my books luck!

I know I'm late, but go with A Game of Thrones. It does rock.

Thanks -- as you see it's Resurrection Men, but I'll look out for the other on my own. And it's my turn to pick again in a few months. I think it may be my duty to introduce a sci-fi/fantasy note to the gatherings, all they seem to have read in that line is Harry Potter and they weren't too whelmed. So many possibilities...

For a good fantasy novel, try Good Omens. It rocks.

Isn't it? I have bought at least 4 copies, because I keep lending it to people and not getting it back. (And in the interests of full disclosure, I had [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl's copy hostage for at least a year.) I was thinking of suggesting it myself. :)

It always makes me nostalgic, because I bought it while taking a summer course in 2nd year university, and I vividly remember sitting in the kitchen for about 4 solid hours reading it and laughing hysterically while I should have been doing calculus.

I have a copy of the hardcover that I hope/pray to get signed this fall by Pratchett and/or Gaiman at WorldCon.

It's one of my most treasured possessions. Cat ever touches it, it's a chamois.
