(have you any idea of the effort it's costing me to fix the typos?)

[livejournal.com profile] mindrobber: good news. As promised, no drunken misery tonight. I may be close to cured. (Of course, as I told P, seeing the boy every other day reeking of mildew is a useful turn-off.) But I still don't think Scotch for breakfast is a good idea.

Let me tell you about the monthly pool tournament.

It has its genesis way back in the mists of time, about 3 years ago, shortly after I first joined the company. I know some of you think they treat me bad, but damn they have their good points. (For instance, today was Bagel Day: breakfast for all from Fairmount Bagel.) Over time more and more participants have become ex-employees -- this time around I think Iain, Bruno, Thong, Eric and I were the only ones, Mike doesn't count because he's a freelancer. Not even sure Thong and Eric were playing.

In any case. It's 9-ball, tournament rules, appeal to the ref if uncertain. I squished Gary on the first round, which is unusually sweet because he generally does pretty bloody well. Lost the first game; won the second by dragging him down to my level; won the third by playing well (sank the 7 with a nice bank shot, then got the 8 and 9 in turn); won the fourth off the break, which was frankly freakish. Then drew JS for the next round. He is beatable, I've beaten him in the past, but not this time (although I did take him to the 5th game, and by the mercy of God we were playing on the 3rd table with very few people to witness our shame -- it was NOT a technically proficient match).

So that was me out. Newbie won the tournament. Talked to Iain. Showed Andy and JS the Scotland photos -- the nice thing about JS is he notices things about composition and compliments you for techincal merit, not just the pretty scene. (And they both approve of the buy-a-portable-CD-player-with-car-attachment plan, which is good.) Talked to Nathalie. Quite taken with a transplanted Canadian now living in Texas (but Austin, programming games, therefore not scary) -- tall, solid, blond, amiable -- but conversation fell into one of those unfortunate ruts. Probably my fault. Wound up telling an ex-company employee all about My Two Worst Jobs Ever* (*details on request). Talked to Masha. William doesn't appear to bear me any grudges for all the times I've snapped at him about the Product from Hell.

In short, a good evening. Going to eat some leftovers and go to bed.

Um, I actually meant details on My Two Worst Jobs Ever -- are you sure you need 'em by email? Cause I can gloss over the names and post details...

oh dear. Sorry to disappoint you both. Nothing further to tell. He was nice, we talked for 2 minutes, I ran out of things to say, silence fell, I fled. I need to work on that.

Tall, solid, blond, rugby shirt. Really very nice specimen. I think I need a better list of conversational gambits.
