I'm just doin' nothing but bitch today. In that vein, thank you, THANK YOU, Formula One, for deigning to accept $12 million of my and my fellow taxpayers' dollars to come back next year and pollute the city with noise, fumes, and Eurotrash, but without tobacco advertising.

You're right! About the universality thing. So either there is an extra distinguishing fillip of Euroness that I have failed to nail down here, or the accents just make us all bigoted. Hmmmm.

So, back to business. Are you telling me that everyone who's into this Formular 1 BULLS*** is European? That nobody else gives a damn? Is this really our fault? I hang my head in shame.

Also, does this mean you don't have 40 tv channels showing nothing but the warm-ups, the qualifications and the actual races for DAYS on end throughout the F1 season? You're so damn lucky! Get me outta here, someone, please!

However:

1. fortunately, I don't have cable, so I am spared the qualifying and race and suchlike

2. i think CART and NASCAR and Indy and stuff spread the motor racing fandom around some over here

3. (the gist of my current irritation) F1 cancelled the Montreal race because as of next year the Canadian gov't isn't allowing tobacco sponsorship (which they have known about for 7 YEARS). F1 said this would cause them to lose far too much revenue, boo hoo, boo hoo. Local merchants whined and complained. Much hoo-ha about how much the F1 people LOOOOOVE Montreal and are SOOOO unhappy about not coming back. Various levels of government have since done backflips to get them back and have now paid $12 million (!!!!) to get them to stay. Link in the original post says it all, really.
