Pro: You don't have to deal with the frames sucking heat from behind your ears. You can cover your whole face except for eye-holes, like with a ski-mask or toque/scarf combo. Your vision doesn't fog up when you come inside.
Con: Nothing to cut the wind. Contacts might increase eye-sucking effect of dry winter air.
#s 1 and 3 off the "pro" list trump EVERYTHING for me. Especially #1. It's not just behind my ears, it's my cheekbones that get all the heat sucked out of them and make me want to cry. Damn metal frames.
Mine have thick plastic frames so there's very little conduction, and since I've been wearing glasses since I was 8 the wind-break factor is very important to me (I gave up on contacts partly because if there's any breeze at all I blink like a mole without the protection of glasses).
There's a guy that lives near me and has 3 small, quite cute spaniely/pekinesy dogs. They were out walking this morning, in coats. I was quite impressed, because they didn't even seem that cross about it.
Me, I'm with your dog. "You want me to go out in THAT? BAREFOOT? Are you NUTS?"
Or at least I hope it won't be raining... and yes, parka's rock.
Walked down from Danforth yesterday and was so glad to ditch some of my outer layers and crawl into a nice warm bed afterwards. It sucks when your clothes get so cold they almost feel crunchy :S

*decides to invest in fur-lined wind goggles*
