electricland: (books too many)

So a few weeks before I went on holiday my library book system went all to hell. I renewed everything I had out, but when I got back one thing led to another and I forgot they were due almost instantly and I owe the library $8.70, which could be worse. But really none of them appealed particularly; I seem to have hit the stage I hit periodically, in which I want nothing to do with serious reading and stick exclusively to Golden Age murder mysteries and other comfort reads. If I've read 'em already, so much the better. It's been a solid diet of Agatha Christie, Patricia Wentworth, Georgette Heyer, Margery Allingham, Terry Pratchett, Emma Lathen, Sarah Caudwell, and Dorothy Sayers since I got back (Ngaio Marsh is missing from the list only because there haven't been any handy). But I do feel that perhaps I have given the ill-fated batch of library books short shrift. So, dear flist, please help me by filling out this poll:

The only one I've read is "The Iron Dragon's Daughter" and I seem to recall thinking it uneven. There were bits I really liked, and other bits I didn't much care for.

I was about to vote firmly against The Iron Dragon's Daughter. I read it during the dragon phase. The take on time clocks and malls is interesting, the rest is terribly boring.

um. what? I am clearly more and more a philistine, as I have heard of none of those.

and, I must confess, even Sayers is leaving me lukewarm. Gaudy Night has taken me MONTHS....

Well, *I* liked The Historian a lot. It may not be the best choice for a "brain is tired" phase, though... (I know the feeling; when I get into those, I tend to end up with the same old fantasy I've read a thousand times before.)
