- tried on sports bras this afternoon, and am now peeved by the flab under my arms. darn sports bras. bought one though.

- I desperately need to get this computer a functional battery. I moved, the power cord joggled, it died. This is bad.

- This has not been a productive weekend, except Jen says we should stay in Kirkwall.

- I need to try getting to bed early in order to deal with jet lag.

- I upgraded my dialup plan following scary bill for last month's use (yes, I know you want me to get high-speed. too bad) and now I get 5 MB of server space to put things on. took me half an hour to find out how to USE IT, but I can use it! what shall I upload? dunno if it allows remote image access, but I'll experiment.

- my goodness but you find some strange things in software license agreements. like this:

HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES. The Software is not fault-tolerant and is not designed, manufactured or intended for use or resale as on-line control equipment in hazardous environments requiring fail-safe performance, such as in the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems, air traffic control, direct life support machines, or weapons systems, in which the failure of the Software could lead directly to death, personal injury, or severe physical or environmental damage ("High Risk Activities"). Ipswitch and its suppliers specifically disclaim any express or implied warranty of fitness for High Risk Activities.
Um, it's an FTP client, guys, I really wasn't planning on using it to fire missiles...

- am currently wearing 10-year-old hiking boots to see if they are comfortable. They seem to press on my Achilles tendons a bit but are otherwise good. hm.

- i am going to finish my dishes or die trying.

* Dishes are evil. And I get dish duty for the week because Mom's eczema is acting up, and the only solution is no dish water. and if I wasn't here?
* be careful with the 10 year old hiking boots -- achilles tendon pressure is NOT something to be messed with. It can ruin a holiday in a hurry. Also, be sure the boots have balanced soles and good leather left -- if they are really worn, lack support and/or have you walking imbalanced, you could wind up with sore feet, knees and/or hips, which can ruin a trip in a hurry. so I repeat myself. This is IMPORTANT!!!! I know wherefore I speak, you will be doing MUCH walking from the itinerary I heard. And be SURE to try them with a fully loaded pack on your back, because that will change the dynamic again.
* sleep GOOD.

*Rubber gloves?
*Thanks. The boots are in excellent shape, I never wore 'em very much so really they count as nearly new, but the achilles tendon thing is worrying me. Hence will continue wearing them for the next couple of days to see if they work or not. Thanks for the tip re the backpack. I'll tell Cranky as well, she's trying to decide if new boots or not new boots.
*sleep NOW.

Hope tomorrow's better!

also, if old boots just have imbalanced sole issues, get them resoled. this is particularly for Cranky, who should NOT take the boots to confession with her, but rather to the shoe repairman if this is the prob. Saves breaking in new boots, AND saves explaining to the priest why you want your boots to have a new soul. /snerk.

ALso, MOm suggested good running/ walking shoes - that are comfy and well broken in. Not GREAT with a heavy pack, IMO (because they lack sufficient support) BUT better than painful and/or un-broken-in boots. And ALWAYS carry a second pair of shoes, no matter HOW light you are trying to pack - -the primary pair could get soaking wet, or your feet may just need a change, or you may get blisters that will be relieved by a change of shoes for a day or two. And PACK THE MOLESKIN!! And bandaids (band-aid brand makes special blister band-aids now, might be good).

REmember the saying: no hoof, no horse.

Well, I've bought anti-blister anti-chafing stuff. My prob is my broken-in boots don't have enough support and my running shoes don't have enough soles. I'm thinking new boots plus broken-in not so good running shoes with new inserts...I'm def bringing two pairs.
