The funeral service was held yesterday evening, attended by my aunt and uncle, [livejournal.com profile] pariah_ink, [livejournal.com profile] bryghtboy, [livejournal.com profile] punmeister, Big D and myself. [livejournal.com profile] pariah_ink was official photographer. My aunt and uncle provided the champagne. I had phoned Granny earlier to let her know this was happening and she sent the car her best wishes.

More detail than you could possibly ask for )

Farewell, car. You were a good car and I'll miss you.

1. Return of the Timesheet - Anyone out there used EasyProjects.NET? We are supposed to be starting to use it, except that as is customary we haven't really sat down to think about how. My boss claims to believe it's the answer to all our problems. As far as I can see it'll be useful for time tracking but that's about it -- there's no way to create dependencies, for instance. Plus, it's web-based, which means (comparatively) slow, even though the server is right here in the office. We do have an "implementation plan" which is basically a half-assed quick reference guide -- I'm sorry, but how does telling me that the Development status "implies that the task is under development" help me? I've just spent half an hour on the thing and have a page worth of comments/complaints. Although I am trying to be positive, because I know we need SOMETHING, and if we are going to have a web-based time tracking application this seems as good as any. What I would LIKE for planning out my time, and what I was promised, is a copy of MS Project, but no sign so far. I will bother my boss about this.

2. Hummer: The Fragrance.

3. Discworld novels with "grown-up" covers. I'm sorry, people, I feel the same way about these as I do about the "grown-up" versions of the Harry Potter books. This is what they are. Suck it up. If you think you're too cool to read a book with this kind of cover, you probably won't enjoy them anyway. And shame on you too, Corgi.

On the plus side, I bought a lovely journal bound in green leather with daisies embossed on it for the Great Writing Adventure (which I should've started yesterday).

I was standing on the westbound platform at St. George station yesterday evening, gazing vacantly into space as one does and admiring the new You Are Here map, which consisted of a schematic of the Yonge-University line plus the half of the Bloor-Danforth line that runs west of Yonge. There was a "direction" arrow on the legend and not on the map, but aside from that it seemed like a pretty cool and helpful and well-designed piece of information.

Vaguely wondering if the eastbound map would have a "direction" arrow and what it would say, I turned around and looked at it. Something didn't seem quite right. I looked at it... turned around again and looked at the westbound map... turned back. Was Victoria Park usually...? Oh.

Then it dawned on me: presumably for purposes of prettier graphic design, they had flipped the map so that you had a mirror image of the lines, then stuck the station names in. North was at the top and south at the bottom, as you'd expect, but east was now off to the left.

I pity the tourists, that's all.

The only POSSIBLE justification I can think of is that it matched the direction of travel... but that's pretty thin, 'cos the Yonge-University line was still in a U shape, just a mirror image of its normal self. If they were going to try and be helpful, they should've just rotated the whole thing.

I wonder if I should call them?
