My aunt reports:

A lot of stuff happened. )

Jen and I went shopping for light fixtures on Saturday. This is stressing her out to a quite extraordinary degree. I didn't buy anything but I'm pretty sure I want a chandelier I would link to if the site was set up that way for my dining room. Then there's:

- wall sconces for dining room
- fixtures for 2 staircases
- hall light, 2nd floor
- fan, 3rd floor
- bathroom fixtures, 2 sets
- ceiling fixture for living room

*sigh*

Expect to see plenty of moaning from me over the next week or so. I'm writing a piece on bike (and other) helmets. I am currently buried in information and see no prospect of ever finding my way out again. This is a normal stage in my research process, but it doesn't make it fun.

I am currently deeply in love with the authors of a U.K. Department of Transport study reviewing the effectiveness of bike helmets:

In terms of tone, the bicycle helmet debate can best be described as sour and tetchy. Neither side seems willing to concede that there can be alternative points of view. Both sides can descend into language that reflects little credit for either, for instance, expressions such as irresponsible zealots who oppose legislation find their counterpart in helmet advocates dismissed as do gooders and mandarins of health promotion. This can be disappointing for those seeking enlightenment from the debate.
I was afraid I was the only one who'd noticed...
