This is Wonderland DVD release in one week, and they had BETTER NOT be toying with me AGAIN. (My Amazon shipping details still say it's supposed to ship between May 11 and May 17. Ha.)

Showcase is screwing with me -- I finally get my act together to tape Slings & Arrows all on one tape, and what do they do? They don't show the last episode, of course. There will be an indignant letter.

Just sent the following email to the writers:

Hi all!

Please note that as mentioned in our style guide (p. 27), we prefer the "e" spelling, rather than "oe", for words such as fetus, edema, and diarrhea. I would like to extend this to apnea, tachypnea, and any other "e/oe" decisions that may arise. (If you have a good reason for preferring "oe", though, I'm open to argument.)

We do prefer the "ae" spelling in most cases, although that's being eroded by anesthesia and anesthetic and hyperglycemia. It's all so complicated.

question for the collective

How do you know how many days are in a particular month?

A colleague says she never learned the English months (she's from Iran). I use the rhyme. I always assumed everybody uses the rhyme, but I just learned it's possible to count the months on your knuckles and never bother with the rhyme. Are there other methods I'm missing?

So, what have we learned from this?

1. Shop around.
2. Be aware that very few stores will give you a straight answer, curse them.
3. A lot of stores are ON THE CRACK. (That last column kept saying he was very competitive. Hah.)
