Promiscuous drink mixing last night, cigarette smoke and turning streetcars in the wee hours of the morning, and a two-hour meeting do not make a happy Electric Landlady. But the party was fun and the meeting was productive, and I just had a chicken shawarma sandwich and I feel MUCH better.

Any time [livejournal.com profile] crankygrrl and I get together and have more than a drink apiece, we inevitably feel like singing. We don't always let loose, but in the bosom of her family and friends it's a different story (although I think we freaked out her father's girlfriend at first).
We had:
Barrett's Privateers (of course)
Fairytale of New York (which might work better if we could settle who gets to be Shane and who gets to be Kirsty, but never mind)
Dirty Old Town
On Ilkley Moor Baht'At
Black Velvet Band
House of the Rising Sun
and of course, Mercedes Benz
There may have been more. If we do nothing else, though, we really have to learn more of the words to these.

Personally, I think all parties should involve singing.

Right, to work.

I think I need a "boozing" icon. Anyone feeling creative today?

Ah, Janis. "Mercedes Benz" was belted at the top of my lungs many a drunken walk home when I was in college and grad school. It is a truly great song, because you don't have to sing it well.

ELL and I once horrified a group at a sing-a-long we attended by performing the twangiest version of "Mercedes Benz" possibly ever. After that nothing we said could convince them that we did it on purpose and actually could sing tolerably. =]

Good times. There was also a chorus of Concrete Blonde's "Tomorrow Wendy" on the beach the night of my 21st birthday party. 8D

It's my favourite singing-in-bars song! Except for the blowing-out-my-throat bit. "Me and Bobby McGee" is good too. I once astonished myself by doing a quite respectable karaoke version of that, including the "la la la" bits at the end.
